Part customer service, part marketing and part product development, the role of the Director of Buyer Services is focused on building customer retention and loyalty among Alibaba.com’s base of buyers, and to ensure that Alibaba.com’s buyers receive the best possible products and services. The position will be focused on large-scale database marketing and online community building. Based in Hangzhou, he/she will report to the Vice President of International Marketing, Service and Website Operations.
Important responsibilities include:
- Develop and lead online efforts to attract and retain buyers around the world, and to actively engage with them in a large and scalable way via online methods.
- Manage all communications with buyer customers.
- Build and manage database, tag data, and target different buyers in different geographies and industries.
- Develop online promotions, marketing material, products and services for buyers.
- Manage Alibaba.com’s buyer relationships to develop targeted services, and build a “buyer community” that is in line with the company’s values.
- Manage a team of 4-5 people, based in Hangzhou.
- Plan and structure resources to achieve business objectives.
The ideal candidate will be a native English speaking Westerner or overseas-born Chinese with experience in (international) direct marketing. Ideally familiar with the import/export sector, he/she will be knowledgeable about how the Web is run and used, and how it relates to buyers and sellers.
The position also calls for:
- Solid track record in database marketing and leading large-scale direct marketing campaigns.
- Exposure to import-export trade and an understanding of the needs of international buyers sourcing from Asia preferred.
- Experience developing online products and services to identify, attract and retain buyers, clients or other target groups.
- Native English. Basic Mandarin a definite plus, but not required.
- Resident work experience in Asia, preferably in Greater China.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and team-oriented work ethic.
- Eagerness to work in a young, high-growth company based in China.
- Must have strong organizational, planning, communications and interpersonal skills.
